Please join us for conversation, coffee and dessert with esteemed faculty member, Jerrilynn Dodds, as she discusses her beautiful new book, Visual Histories from Medieval Iberia: Arts and Ambivalence. Jerri’s book challenges popular assumptions about religion and identity on the Iberian Peninsula during the Middle Ages, offering new insight into the art and culture of this complex region. We are honored to recognize and celebrate Professor Jerri Dodds and learn about her wonderful new work.
Co-sponsored by the Office of the President, the Faculty Spotlight is a monthly series that celebrates faculty scholarship in all mediums. Presented in the form of a live, recorded podcast in the Library Reading Room, the series is moderated by SLC Podcast host, Tim Kail. All episodes are preserved in the College Archive as an enduring record of faculty voices and accomplishments.

Julia Phillips is the author of the bestselling novels Bear and Disappearing Earth, which was a finalist for the National Book Award and one of The New York Times Book Review’s 10 Best Books of the Year. A 2024 Guggenheim fellow, she lives with her family in Brooklyn. Julia's work has been translated into twenty-six languages. She has written for The New York Times, The Atlantic, and The Paris Review and teaches at the Randolph College MFA program. She is also on the board of the Crime Victims Treatment Center, a nonprofit that helps people heal from violence. SLC, 2021–
